For the past three years I’ve thrown a Harry Potter birthday party and have somehow never blogged about it. Every year the party gets easier and easier to throw, so for my own sanity and organization next year and for any of you other Potterheads out there, I’m including the easy to follow party plan as well as shopping lists here! This will come in REALLY handy next year when I’m getting this party together with a 7 month old :p.

Movies
We always have the HP movies playing in the background. They had them on HBO for awhile but took them off (SAD!). Hopefully next year we have a full dvd player and can invest in all the Dvds but for now we just stream them online. Having the movies on in the background is so nice and I love a chance to watch them all again, even if it’s passively/in the background!
Food
We generally go pretty basic with the food, chips for snacking and sweets from Honeydukes. We get bakers chocolate and pour it into a chocolate frog mold (super easy, linked to the bakers chocolate and mold we use below). For sweets, we have a variety of candy in bowls or jars with my own customized labels on them – I’ve included all of these plus an empty one that you can customize in the “Printing” section below.
Honeydukes Candy Bar:
Chocolate Frogs – Bakers Chocolate & Chocolate Frog Mold. Find the mold here!
Puking Pastiles – Sour Gummy Worms
Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans – Jelly Bellys
Fainting Fancies – Peach Rings
Chocolate Wands – Pretzel Rods dipped in leftover bakers chocolate from the frogs
Cockroach Clusters – Nestle Buncha Crunch Candy
Hagrid’s Pumpkin Patch – Halloween Pumpkins!
Drinks
We’ve finally gotten it down to the core drinks that can utilize the same liquor and juices for maximum bang for our buck. When we host a party we try to provide the basic drinks and snacks at least – when you get super creative with potions that can really add up! What we’ve learned is to make a little at a time to reduce waste and to buy ingredients that you will use after the party instead of obscure stuff that you’ll only use once.
Butterbeer – Vanilla Ice Cream, Butterscotch Syrup, Cream Soda, Ice, Vanilla Vodka. (Can make nonalcoholic using the same ingredients minus the vodka – and it’s amazing! Simply combine till it tastes good and blend the ingredients.
Polyjuice Potion – Lime Sherbert, Lemon Lime Soda, Ginger Ale, Vanilla Vodka. Combine and put in sherbert.
Felix Felicis – Fireball in tiny bottles. Find the tiny little bottles on amazon here!
Dumbledore’s Pensive – Blue Curacao & Pineapple Rum. Throw in some sprite as a mixer if this is too strong!
Unicorn Blood – Blue Curacao, Pineapple Rum, Grenadine, & Cherries. Combine liquors and add a splash of grenadine and cherries to the jar.
Games
We have a variety of games that are out for people to play. The first year was a bunch of work printing all these out and cutting them but once that task is done it’s easy! We just store them in a Ziploc bag in the Harry Potter box. Yes, we do have a Harry Potter box full of supplies that we hold on to from one year to the next :p. The absolute WORST to cut out is the cards against muggles game… took so so long. It’s so much fun, so worth it – but I've linked a version that is already cut out to save other people their sanity!
Harry Potter Drinking Game - Link to SUCH a fun Harry Potter drinking game here
Pin the Scar on Harry - We just googled a photo of Harry where his scar showed and cut out little lightning bolts. There are also kits you can buy pre-printed on Etsy for really cheap!
Temporary Tattoos - Find on Amazon here
Cards Against Muggles - Check out a ready to play/not cutting required version here!
HP Would You Rather - Find a download here
HP Bingo - Love these cards here - print on cardstock!
Sorting Hat Cootie Catcher - Find a download here
Shopping List
You can save this list to your phone if you want to follow our food/potions ideas! This will come SO in handy for me next year not having to re-figure out all the candies and potions and remember what I'd done previously.

Printing
I also linked and added all the printing we use for the party - you can also google and find your own printing, but these were really helpful for me getting started and it's nice just to have to print new labels now and call it a day. I've also included a blank label - I created all these using canva.com - if you head there and upload the blank label you can easily a dd text to say whatever you want! (they also have an app that's really easy to use - highly recommend)
